How it works

SixStar provides study and training scholarships every year to help those passionate about a career in hospitality, tourism or hotel management to achieve their dreams

Here is a summary of how it works:

  1. Applicants must apply online and upload all required documents including signed Terms & Conditions Form prior to the closing date indicated on the link above. The application deadline is usually in October for Semester 1, and in April for Semester 2 of the following year.

  2. A Reference Form (preferably from a current employer) and Guarantor Declaration Form must be submitted prior to the closing date indicated on the online application.

  3. Applicants apply separately to their chosen study programme provider. The programme must lead to one of the NZQA recognised qualifications offered by the provider.

  4. Applications are reviewed by the SixStar Selection Committee. We consider each person's ability and employment history, plus the relevance and level of their chosen programme of study. The recommendation and support of their application by their referee is an important part, especially if they are an employer within the hospitality and tourism industry.

  5. Applicants are notified of the outcome of their application. Decisions are dependent on the number and quality of applications, and on available funds.

  6. The scholarship amount varies and will be offset against tuition fees. Scholarships for successful applicants are paid directly to the study programme provider.

  7. Applicants agree to submit reports as requested by SixStar regarding their study progress, internship and completion.
