Scholarship Selection Criteria

Each year SixStar provides a limited number of scholarships to students who need financial support to study a programme preparing for a career in hospitality, tourism or hotel management with one of our Partners in Education.
To be considered for a SixStar Scholarship, applicants need to meet the following criteria:
Be a New Zealand citizen, New Zealand permanent resident, or have refugee status.
Demonstrate academic potential with an overall Merit or Excellence endorsement at the NCEA level required for their chosen programme, and be accepted on a Diploma or Bachelor programme offered by one of our Partners in Education.
Proof financial need by submitting approval of their StudyLink allowance or equivalent evidence of financial need (where StudyLink allowance is not available through training provider), and submit a detailed budget plan for the entire duration of their programme.
Demonstrate motivation and commitment through industry and work experience, leadership roles and other engagement such as extracurricular activities or community involvement.
Provide a reference submitted by their current workplace manager or secondary school.
Applicants must apply online and upload all required documents and additional forms prior to the application deadline. Additional information may be required to inform the selection process. This will be communicated via email.
For 2027 SixStar Scholarships the closing date will be Friday 16 October 2026.
